PITTSBURGH : Contemporary Art and Architecture

Customized Tours Available : Spring, Summer, Fall

Pittsburgh has emerged from a point of transformation, from industrial steel mills and glass factories, to a new creative legacy as an artistic center. With prestigious museums, grand architecture, contemporary galleries, excellent restaurants, and a smattering of hip neighborhoods, Pittsburgh is a fantastic, and to many, an undiscovered trove of cultural riches.

There's so much to see and do, from the venerable Carnegie Museum of Art to the Andy Warhol Museum honoring the legacy of its hometown hero. We are sure not to miss the Mattress Factory, dedicated to exhibiting large-scale installations in (you guessed it) a former mattress factory, the Pittsburgh Glass Center and the Society for Contemporary Craft. And of course, no trip would be complete without a day trip to tour the nearby Frank Lloyd Wright masterpieces Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, the latter with a world class sculpture collection with works by international masters such as Andy Goldsworthy and Ray Smith.

Completed in 1935, "Fallingwater" is Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece. His interesting use of materials, space, and integration into the surrounding landscape, made this home design for local entrepreneur Edgar J. Kaufmann, ahead of it's time.

Since Pittsburgh is the birthplace of pop art icon Andy Warhol, it only seems fitting that we visit The Andy Warhol Museum. One of many Carnegie Museums in the city, the Museum contains an almost exhaustive collection of his work:
