DESTINATION: New Orleans

Prospect New Orleans is the premiere biennial of international contemporary art in the U.S. By showcasing new art from around the world in a setting that is both historic and culturally unique, Prospect New Orleans contributes to the revitalization of New Orleans by bringing international attention to the city's visual arts community.

Prospect.1 opened to glowing review from the art community, and was a major success in the New Orleans area, but after fundraising goals fell behind schedule, Prospect.2 was pushed forward to 2011. With funding secure and this new date set, most of the local plans and details remain largely unchanged – bringing 60 local, national, and international artists to develop major new projects to be exhibited throughout 20+ sites.

Prospect New Orleans was founded on the principle that the art of our time can play a significant role in the revitalization of an important U.S. city. As it evolves from a first–time biennial in Prospect.1 to a local tradition with each subsequent Prospect New Orleans, the biennial remains committed to building a contemporary art tourism infrastructure upon a signature event that galvanizes local art creation and entrepreneurial activity, while attracting tens of thousands of art lovers to New Orleans every–other–year.
