The Jacobs Group™ Creative Travel presents ...
DESTINATION: Los Angeles
We love LA! It doesn't hurt that the Los Angeles art scene is exploding right now either. In a recent interview, Perry Rubenstein says "Los Angeles is a new center. It looks today the way New York looked compared to Paris after the war." It seems others agree, as the list of New York art-world transplants continues to expand, making this city one of the most important destinations in the US for art second only to New York.
Couple this with the exciting launch this fall of the Getty Museum’s ‘Pacific Standard Time’, an ambitious city wide venue devoted to the history of art in California from 1945–1980, and a tour of Los Angeles this fall is almost irresistible.
The Getty Museum’s Pacific Standard Time is a collaboration of over 50 Southern California institutions brought together to celebrate the birth and history of the post war LA art scene. It will culminate in October 2011 with over 25 exhibitions across Southern California encompassing developments from modernist architecture and design to multi–media installations; from L.A. Pop to post–minimalism; from the films of the African–American L.A. Rebellion to the feminist happenings of the Woman’s Building; from ceramics to Chicano performance art, and from Japanese–American design to the pioneering work of artists’ collectives.
